In 2009, sweeping changes have been introduced in the procedure for Dutch passport applications. Honorary Consul Siebe van der Zee has provided some very helpful guidelines. Please review this important information if your passport is about to expire.

While the Annual Meeting represents the formal part of our Dutch Connection in Arizona, the 23 members who attended did not let it keep them from making it a gathering of friendship and good times. Yes, it was gezellig. As our president Drew de Weerd was in Germany for business, VP - Johan Bolle skillfully conducted the meeting. Everyone was welcomed, new members were introduced and the board asked for new ideas for activities. New Board member Peter Hofland demonstrated leadership here as he announced that he will coordinate a home-cooked Rijsttafel event in the Spring. More details will be provided under the Events tab of the site. Other ideas that were floated included a Bicycle ride, Mosselfeest and Haring Party. Potential organizers are still at large.
After approving the financial report by treasurer Benno Kuipers and election of the new Board, Siebe van der Zee, our Honorary Consul spoke about the new Dutch Consulate Office in San Francisco and changes in the passport renewal procedure. Siebe also informed us about new initiatives to strengthen business ties between The Netherlands and Arizona, with an emphasis on clean energy technologies.
The meeting was concluded with a profound THANK YOU to outgoing VP Johan Bolle for his many years of service on the Board and an invitation to all members to follow his example and engage in organizing events that establish and nurture the connection between the Dutch in Arizona. Thank you, as always to Marceline Vandewater for organizing and reporting on the meeting.

| Hundreds of soccer fans gather in Scottsdale to watch World Cup finale |
SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Hundreds of orange clad fans gathered Sunday in Scottsdale to cheer on the Netherlands in the World Cup finale.
"It's amazing how soccer is a reflection of people's culture and hopes and dreams," said fan Rick Tilmans. "I can't tell you how much it hurts me to not be in Holland right now."
Tilmans and more than 200 of his fellow Dutchmen packed the Versus Sports Bar near 90th Street and Via Linda.
For nearly three hours, fans rode a roller coaster of emotions watching their team battle it out on the pitch.
"This is great," said Eric VandeWater with the Dutch Connection of Arizona. "Being on the other side of the world, you always like to celebrate the few things that bring you together."

| First Cup Semifinal Goes Dutch |
July 6 - For years the Netherlands has thrilled us with its passing, possession and invention, winning admirers around the world but precious little else. Here, on an absorbing night in Cape Town, it showed us something more, a win over Uruguay (3-2) and as a result, the Dutch are back in the World Cup final, 32 years since their latest appearance. |

| Holland has resilience of World Champion! |
July 2 - The international media mainly praise the Dutch resilience after the win over Brazil (2-1) in the quarter finals. The response to Mathijsens injury and the comeback after that hopeless first half is telling for a big team. A team that can take the gold!. |

| Annual Dutch Movie Night well attended |
June 12 - Our Annual Dutch Movie Night at EuroDreamKitchens was "Oud Hollands Gezellig"! A good number of people came to watch "Alles is Liefde" (our proposed movie didn't arrive on time...) and socialize while snacking on "Bitterballen en Patat". The DCAZ board wants to thank Johan & Polene for their hospitality and effort to make this a fun evening. |
